Topic 2: Apathy

Oct. 2nd, 2008 | 11:48 pm

Apathy's a weird topic for me because I care. I have opinions. I make impassioned speeches and start debates from offhand comments. I share shocked outrage with my feminist best friend when she comes across something offensive.

So then what?Collapse )

Topic 1: Saying Goodbye.

Sep. 25th, 2008 | 01:10 am

This topic sort of hit home with me as soon as I read it, ordinarily I'd want to do something clever, to find some shiny new angle to talk about, something really interesting.
However, whether for good or ill, this particular topic makes me think of something personal, so I'm going to talk about that.

Something personal, eh?Collapse )

Good Evening one and all,

I must confess, like many I'm sure, that I find myself not terribly gifted in the art of introductions...you must also forgive the suddenly flowery language, I've just been watching 'Lost in Austen' on TV and the period talk has infected me.
Had I been watching Firefly, this post would be littered with gorram shinies (Admittedly, it's likely to have a shiny or two anyway, I do so like that word), a certain series starring Johnny Depp and I'd be talking like a pirate, savvy?

I was a RAF child, and thanks to moving around quite a bit in my youth, I never picked up a distinctive accent, and find my mode of speech has a tendency to...wander somewhat.
The majority of my life I lived in Hampshire, UK, and that's where my accent mostly grounds - with a smattering of Yorkshire and Bristol, and occasionally accents from places I've never even been. I've had people mistake me for all sorts - I once had a guy spend about twenty minutes insisting I was Australian.

My failure at introductions does lend itself quite easily to my tendency to go off on terribly uninteresting tangents like the one above, but really that's probably as good an introduction as any - at least it gives you a fair idea of what you can expect from me, though I'm hoping my tangents will be at least mildly entertaining.

So down to the nitty gritty (of a sort)...I'm a fandom gal, I dip my toes in many, get involved in a few more, I feel like I'm sort of neglecting my old fandoms - Buffy, Firefly, LOTR, Doctor Who - a lot these days, I mean I still adore them, but I got BIG into anime.
And I mean BIG. I'm not like "OMG SUPA KAWAII DESUU!!!" but I like a lot of anime and manga (sooo many different series'), I have actually studied Japanese (I almost, ALMOST got into the JET programme), I go to conventions (several events a year) and I cosplay, oh do I cosplay.
I'm on 29 costumes and counting :D
It really didn't help that I got involved in the creation of my University Anime Society and suddenly found myself with a massive group of friends who all loved it too...
I do have outside interests though, I promise!

I'm hugely opinionated, about a number of issues, these days my energy's getting very focused on female and gay rights - my best friend is a massive feminist and she sort of infected me with the bug a little :D Also, my last year at Uni I did a module called 'Critical Sexualities' - it raised a lot of new questions and I absolutely ADORED it.

I have a feeling I'm going to bore you all terribly if I continue, so a quick run down of the basics and I'll love you and leave you...
My name's Amy, but I go by Shini much more often, I'm 21 - 22 in two weeks (2nd October if you don't wanna do the maths) and I've just finished studying Psychology and Drama at UWE in Bristol. I'm living with my mother (how lame, but it's a money thing) and failing dismally to get a job.

This is going to be fun :D

Lj Idol...

Sep. 17th, 2008 | 07:34 pm

As mentioned in my user info, this journal is for the express purpose of partaking in LJ Idol, Season Five, without having to un-friendslock my main journal (Though you're all welcome to go friend me there :D).
More information about what LJ Idol is can be found here therealljidol

So I suppose I probably ought to, y'know, partake :D

It looks like it's going to be really interesting, even if I'm not 100% sure what it is ^^ I'm pretty sure I've got the gist of it, and I'm even more sure that I'll get the hang of it as we go along.

So here we go! Hold onto your hats! Let's get started...
